This house sits in the jungle discretely, only a short distance from the crystalline cenotes and Tulum beach. Casa Aviv is designed and built by Collaborative Design Office as a unique house with handmade finishes. This unique house is highlighted by its warm grey polished cement walls that contrast with black terrazzo floors.
Design
The indoor and outdoor of this house are merged into one generous, peaceful space. There are two parallel volumes inside the house that are shifted from each other to protect some existing trees on site. This house also has open kitchen dining and living areas, high ceilings, 4 en-suite bedrooms, and a 360º roof terrace.
Oriented east-west, this house takes advantage of the cross ventilation and prevailing winds. The different spaces are filled with indirect natural light by the north-oriented skylights, creating soft contrast of shadow and light.
Rooms
The kitchen, dining room, living room, and two bedrooms open to the garden on the ground floor. The master bedroom has a private patio with direct access to the house pool. The double-height living space extends out into the garden and pool through floor to ceiling, blending the exterior and interior in one integrated space filled with garden views and natural light.
Two bedrooms on the first floor frame the awesome views of the lush jungle and connected by a bridge under a skylight.
Materials
The warm grey polished cement walls of this house contrast with the black terrazzo floors while the charred cedar wood carpentry is used to complement the neutral palette. The light features and furnishings are fabricated by local artisans and in CO-LAB’s workshop and are custom-designed to fit the house.
