Jumpstory Download20210305 090548

Cleaning the dishes is a tedious chore, but dealing with a clogged kitchen sink on top of that can be frustrating. Although DIY plumbing is not the wisest choice, it can’t be helped when you are in a hurry. Dealing with a clogged sink by yourself can be tricky sometimes, though, and you may end up causing more damage than good.

Even if you manage to fix your sink by yourself, ensure that you call a plumber afterwards to inspect the issue further. Luckily, you can try various hacks to unclog drains and get started with your day in an emergency until professional help arrives. Read on to find out more.

How to Unclog Kitchen Drains

When you are stuck with a clogged drain on a busy morning, you do not have much time to call the plumber and wait for them to get there. It may further delay your schedule. At the same time, you can’t leave the problem unattended.

Waiting for hours with a water-logged sink is frustrating, and you may be tempted to try and fix the sink yourself. But, instead of going in without any idea, why not try a few tested hacks, which are easy and might work, though they can’t compete with the reliable results offered by a licensed plumber.

Use Boiling Water

When facing a clogged sink, the easiest way to deal with it is to pour boiling water down your sink. If your sink is filled with water, first, try to take out as much of it as you can with a mug or a pipe.

Once you have cleared as much water as possible, take some boiling or hot water and pour it down your sink. If the water does not drain, then you may need to repeat the process a few times to ensure that the sink is unclogged, and if it’s still stuck, you need to call the pros instead of causing further harm to your clogged drains.

Using Vinegar and Baking Soda

When the sink is clogged, first, take out the water from the sink. Then, take some baking soda and pour it down the drain. Follow this up with equal amounts of white vinegar or apple cider vinegar. Once you have poured the vinegar, put a stopper on the sink. After 15 minutes, take the stopper out and pour hot water down the sink, and hopefully, this will clear the clog. If the clog is not cleared, you may need to call the experts to unclog drains immediately.

Use a Plunger

Sometimes, common household items are more useful than you would think. When facing issues with your sink, using a plunger may be more beneficial than you think. When using a plunger, ensure that there is a tight seal. Press the plunger a few times, and you will hopefully hear the sound of the sink unclogging. When the clog is out, pour some warm water down the sink and then flush it out.

These are some quick ways to unclog your sink if you are in a hurry. Even after you have unclogged the drain, ensure that you call a plumber to get your plumbing system inspected. If you face clogged drains often, then the problem may be more severe than you think.

Why Does Your Sink Get Clogged?

Your skin may get clogged for several reasons. Sometimes, people are lazy and may try to flush food items down their sink, or it may be due to mineral build-up.

Kitchen Roll Build-Up

Many people flush their used kitchen roll paper down the sink, thinking that it will dissolve due to the water. However, too much kitchen paper rolls down the sink may cause a clog.

Small Objects

A small item may slip down the drain, or you may flush it accidentally. No matter the reason for a small object making your way down the drain, you can expect a clog! If the object has not been flushed too far down the drain, then you may be able to deal with it easily, but in case it is jammed too far down, then you may need to call a plumber.

Mineral Build-up

Those living in an area with hard water will be familiar with a mineral build-up. Hard and insoluble material may clog the drain and cause the drainage to slow down or get clogged.

Dealing with plumbing issues is a big hassle. When you are in a hurry, trying to fix something as simple as a clogged sink may be easy. However, stay away from trying to fix other plumbing issues yourself. When dealing with plumbing issues, it is best to call a professional.
