Light is something that is often taken for granted. You turn the switch and the room illuminates, allowing you to cook, work, or even relax. But, the level of light and the color of that light can make a huge difference in how a room feels. In many ways, it is the most important design aspect of any room.

Of course, you must also respect the fact that lights are generally powered by electricity and this can be a dangerous substance. If you’re planning on changing your lighting system it is advisable to use a reputable level 2 electrician.

Setting The Mood

Bright lights encourage you to be alert and mentally prepared for anything. That’s why office spaces are generally brighter, to encourage high productivity levels.

Equally, if you’re lighting a kitchen you want it to be bright, you need to see what you’re preparing. In fact, kitchen lighting can also be directional, encouraging a better view of specific countertops.

In contrast, a bathroom, or even the living room will want to have more subdued and softer lighting, this will help people to relax and enjoy the space.

To decide on the right lighting for each room you’ll need to consider what you predominantly use the space for. It’s also a good idea to add a dimmer switch as this will ensure you can control the lighting levels when you need to.

Outdoor Lighting

There is an array of products available that mimic the look and feel of outdoor lighting. These are excellent for entrance halls, conservatories, and areas that border the outside. Being able to make the space feel like it is outside will help you t make the most of the better weather and enjoy the space more.

Don’t forget, you can achieve natural lighting with well-positioned skylights instead of using new interior lighting.

Happiness

Have you ever noticed that you instantly feel happier when the sun is shining? Lighting can seriously affect your mood. Brighter but warmer colors are certain to leave you feeling happier.

In fact, warmer colored lights have also been shown to help relax people, making them a useful sales tool and a useful lighting system for before bed.

Being relaxed will help you agree to a sale. But, it will also save you money when repainting. Simply subduing the color is an effective way of changing the color of any room, as if by magic.

Of course, using light colors and bright lights will also make a small space feel larger, this can also make you feel more positive.

The Light Fitting

It’s also important to note that the light fitting can make a difference to your mood. There are hundreds of lighting options, choosing the right one allows you to make any space your own. This will instantly make you feel more comfortable and relaxed in the room.
