Jumpstory Download20200804 081115

You love your home, but it’s time for some upgrades. You’re tired of looking at the same entryway, the same exterior walls, and the same landscaping. It’s time for a change.

Maybe you’re even ready to sell and want to boost the curb appeal to ensure the highest offers. Whatever the case may be, completing a home exterior makeover is worth it. You can create something that you’ll love to look at for years to come or something that all those buyers will fight over.

There’s a lot that goes into a full exterior house makeover, however. If you don’t have a plan in place, you could easily become overwhelmed. To begin your makeover project, the first thing you need to do is decide what upgrades you want to make.

Our guide below is here to help. Continue reading to discover a few tips, tricks, and ideas for completing an exterior home makeover!

Extend Your Door’s Awning

If your home currently has an awning over the front door, then you have the perfect opportunity to extend it. Rather than having a small awning over your door, extend the roof of your home and create an entire front porch.

The extended roof will give you more space to huddle under when it’s raining and will provide the perfect shaded spot for sitting on your front porch and enjoying the views. After extending the roof, be sure to lay down concrete and add some patio furniture like a small table and rocking chairs.

You can lay stepping stones that lead from the front door to the driveway to complete the look.

Switch the Front Door for Energy Efficiency

If you’re going to make upgrades to your home’s exterior, then you’ll want to look into upgrades that’ll put money back in your pocket. Switch out the front door for a new door that’s energy-efficient. A new door will bring a whole new look to your home, and you can even have some fun with it by choosing a bright color.

As long as the door comes with energy-efficient technology, you won’t regret your decision. The windows should be switched out for energy-efficient ones as well. These upgrades will help keep your home insulated and your energy bills low.

Hang and Pot Plants Near the Doorway

Adding greenery is a great way to brighten any area of the home. Plants are good for air quality and mental health. They’re also quite welcoming when guests come to visit.

Hang a few plants by the front door. You can also place plants in pots around the front door, near the stairs leading to the door, and on either side of the walkway. It’s a simple upgrade to make that won’t cost a lot to do but will make a big difference.

Replace Damaged Roofing and Siding

If your home has any damages to its roof or the siding, then now is the time to make a few repairs to replacements. A damaged roof might not be a concern for leaks at the moment, but over time if not fixed it will. Make the corrections now before you’re left with an expensive project down the road.

Any damaged siding on a home can lead to water entering your home’s walls. Mold and mildew can also start to grow. Make sure you correct these issues, and you’ll save your house, money, and boost the curb appeal.

Give It a Fresh Coat of Paint

One of the easiest ways to transform the exterior of your home is to paint it. A fresh coat of exterior paint can make all the difference. Choose a color that’ll work well with your landscaping and decor.

It should also work well with your home’s architectural style. Before painting it, you should pressure wash the walls. Remove any mold and mildew or dirt and debris first.

Once it’s dry, you can then begin your painting project. If you paint over dirty walls, the paint might not adhere well. If you paint over a wet wall, you have the same problem.

When painting, you need to avoid these mistakes plus a few others. If you have any doubts, you can choose to hire professionals who’ll get the job done right.

Hire Professional Landscapers

Hiring professional landscapers isn’t a bad idea either. If you don’t know where to start when planning a new landscaping design, bring in the professionals. Professional landscapers can create the design you’re looking for and give you instructions on how to properly maintain it.

You can even have the same landscapers come out on routine maintenance visits if desired. Having a fresh garden in the front of your home will tighten its curb appeal.

Install LED Landscape Lighting

Once your new landscaping is complete, you should then install LED landscape lighting. Install lights along the walkways leading up to your front door. You can also install lights on the wall on either side of the front door as well.

These lights are beneficial during the evening hours when you’re arriving home late and need guidance from your car to your front door to avoid possible tripping or injuries.

Drive Around the Block for More Ideas

If you’re in need of a few other ideas, then hop in your car and take a trip around the block. Scope out your neighborhood for some inspiration. What are your neighbors doing with their homes’ exteriors?

Are there any newly updated, remodeled, or new construction homes in the area? Look at what they’ve done to the exteriors. Take note of the things you like and dislike and then use that in your own exterior design plans.
