With a highly collaborative process, an integration design can be created between this house and its environment. High Desert Residence is a weekend escape located in Bend, Oregon designed by Hacker Architects. It is a contemporary house that holds the smallest of details to the highest of standards in its 4,200 in size. For this awesome 2018 project, the architect won the AIA Portland Merit Award in 2019.
Design
The design for this residence can connect the incredible Central Oregon landscape with the house building while maintaining the privacy within the home at the same time. It is a grounded and calm respite from busy lives with a lot of small details that make it looks awesome. The small details include decoration, elements, and furniture.
Interior – Exterior
The design takes full advantage of the high desert landscape to blend this contemporary home indoors and out, capturing the beautiful views and land. The interior materials of the house can highlight the connection from indoors to outdoors through the wall, ceilings, and floor planes that extending from the interior to exterior visually.
Materials
On the exterior, the natural cedar siding is stained in the warm gray of the native shadows and plants. It blends and also recedes into the landscape around the house, adding a more calm feeling to this desert retreat. From the outside, this comfortable retreat looks bold and strong with its dark color but it is calm and warm with its soft interior.
