Bourgeois Lechasseur Architectes rebuild this house for the clients who have lived in Lac-St-François, Adstock, Quebec for a few years. L’Accostée House is located on the beautiful side, an original house that was in poor condition and too small for the clients’ growing family. With a contemporary design and wooden structure, this house turns into a warm, friendly house with respect to its natural environments.
Design
The clients love to enjoy the aquatic activities on the lake near the house with their family. In order to provide a comfortable living place for their growing family, the house is rebuilt while keeping the open space on the edge of the lake and also preserving the natural surroundings. This house also can respect its environment at the same time.
Architecture
The original foundations of L’Accostée House are kept, providing a large storage area for the family. The SPA and terrace are built on the top area of the old house footprint with the wide stairs that lead to the lake. It is a kind of architectural gesture that takes an agora form and becomes the new house cornerstone.
Details
The site slope is integrated into the house design. The spaces flow into one another, following the land natural slope. The passerby can see the garage and the upper level from the access road. Three levels rise on the lakeside above the ground, revealing a facade. This facade is articulated by a series of wide openings and angles.
Structure
There is a discreet entrance with an open facade on the lake that creates a strong duality. The idea for this house is not to reveal everything only at a glance. It is a contemporary house with a wooden structure expression. The exposed beams indoors and outdoors can emphasize the transparency effect toward the lake while the roof protects the south-facing glass facade in summer from overheating.
Rooms
The house has different levels, revealing itself gradually. The family can host their friends around the large U-shaped island in a friendly atmosphere. The master bedroom offers stunning views of the cedars outside. The children’s room can be found on the upper level, easy to access by the catwalk. The three levels of the house are connected by a staircase.
Interior
It is a dynamic and light staircase that leads to the garden floor and runs along the decal wall. The indoor swimming pool is located in the heart of the house and easy to be accessed by the Paleolithic mosaic that decors the shower walls. The delicately carved volume is nestled following the topography into the site. The red cedar slats and sandy beige wood can create a more delicate and warm atmosphere.
