McGILL 38 is a 2017 residential project by La Firme. It is a penthouse located in Old Montreal with a stunning view of downtown and the Old Port. The client asks the architect to do a complete refurbishment to this two-story condo built in the late 1990s. With a fully open space and pure design, this condo becomes a comfortable place for living and enjoying the views.
Space
The bedrooms and two bathrooms are decompartmentalized by the architect to create a fully comfortable open space where is now a walk-in closet and a huge open bathroom on the master bedroom, DJ and recording station, and a mini-bar. Decreasing is needed in this project, especially when it is necessary to get more space.
Design
The studio or office overlooks the living room and facing the house double-height windows on the first level. The whole design of this project is deliberately cold and extremely clean. The accessories, the warm lighting of the halogens, and the wood are designed for this project to create a balance between the house and its elements.
Awards
McGILL 38 is a residential winner project that has won two design awards. With the design, modern spaces, and comfortable atmosphere, this project won the Design Excellence Award 2018 from IDA and the Fantini Design Award 2018. It also appears in the January 2019 edition of Azure Magazine.
