You can get a lot more enjoyment out of your living space if you embrace some design and decorating ideas that help to make your outdoor space feel like an extension of your living arrangements inside.

Protecting yourself from the elements and giving yourself some useful shade with the fitting of aluminum louvered roofs is just the start of it and there are lots of other ways to create an outdoor that is just perfect for kicking back and relaxing.

Create an imaginary world that everyone will love

If you are looking for a theme for your garden, or at least the patio area where you will be spending plenty of time relaxing, why not consider an idea that is trending right now.

Fairy gardens are not that difficult to create with a bit of imagination and if you have a young family it will be an instant hit with them, although grown-ups enjoy the fun of this environment as well.

A combination of small potted plants with some fairy figurines and some fairy lights (what else?) draped around, will soon help you create a spectacular magical place.

When the sun goes down

There is also something magical about spending some quality time gathered around a fire and chatting with family and friends.

Invest in a firepit and you will be able to enjoy staying outdoors long after the sun has gone down.

Give your furniture a makeover

If your current patio furniture looks like it has seen one too many summers there is no need to abandon it if it is still sound but just looks a bit worse for wear.

You will be amazed how good your furniture will look with a fresh coat of paint and this is a perfect opportunity to introduce a fun and funky color scheme into your outdoor space.

Decorate your vertical space

When an interior designer talks about decorating your vertical space they are talking about your walls and this is a suggestion that you can take outside with you to good effect.

Use some hanging flower baskets combined with some colorful lights to bring your vertical space to life.

Easy to add some color and texture

If you have a patio space that extends straight from your home and uses a wall of your house as a backdrop this presents a great opportunity to easily add some color and texture to your outdoor surroundings.

There are no real rules to follow here so you can use a wall sculpture, a vibrant piece of artwork, or anything else that helps add some welcome color and texture.

Dramatic dining

Dining al fresco is such fun and if you are creating an outdoor space for that purpose it would be a good idea to think about how you are going to light that area.

A good way to make a design statement would be to use some attractive hanging lanterns to create a real sense of atmosphere when dining under the stars.

Don’t forget the greenery to help everything blend in

It is nice to create a cozy patio space that is inviting and sheltered but you also want it to flow seamlessly and feel like it is an integral part of the garden.

As long as you keep control of it so that it doesn’t get out of control, ivy is a good option and it will help create a natural look and feel in no time at all.

If you don’t like the idea of using ivy or want the maintenance to be a bit easier you could invest in some planted pots, which will look great and add that much-needed greenery, allowing your patio area to blend in beautifully with the rest of the garden.

It pays to be patient when you are using greenery to enhance your patio area as it takes time for young plants to get established successfully.

Look at ways to be eco-friendly

It is becoming more important than ever before to think about ways of being as eco-friendly as possible and there are plenty of things you can do on that score when you are designing an outdoor living space.

Take a look around your home and in your garage to see if there is any furniture that you can upcycle and repurpose.

One example of this would be converting an old wooden ladder into an impressive plant display. A fresh coat of paint and a few adjustments to the structure of the ladder and you will have the perfect storage solution for growing some fresh herbs.

Create an outdoor living room

It’s fine if you want to use your patio as a dining space but you could also consider turning it into an outdoor living room.

One of the best ways to do that would be to buy an outdoor sofa. Combined with a heating solution such as a fire pit and maybe even an outdoor screen for movie nights, you will soon have an outdoor living room that you will want to spend time in.

A place to grab some shut-eye

Your outdoor space can be used for so many different purposes and if you have enough space to work with there is no reason why you can’t create a number of different areas that give you plenty of leisure options.

There is something very restful and relaxing about grabbing some sleep with a natural breeze hitting your face as you drift off for a quick nap.

Consider the idea of installing a cozy napping spot. This can be a hammock tucked away in a quiet corner which can be hung from the trees, if possible, or you could use a built-in stand if that is easier.

If you have an outdoor space to use it make sense to maximize the opportunity to create an environment that invites you to kick back and relax in calming and natural surroundings.
