MADE IN CHINA Cafe is located in the center area of Saint-Petersburg, Russia. This Asian cafe is a 2017 project by DA Design & Architecture, housed in a historical building. The modern interior design is combined with authenticity, historical heritage, and a lot of elements protected by the state. This combination makes this cafe turns into a high-value cafe that must be visited.
Interior
The architect uses the main technique to design a modern interior in this cafe, including emphasizing the premises authenticity and the cafe historical heritage. The work process of designing the interior in this project doesn’t include a modification of stairs, railings, and stucco molding because it is strictly forbidden.
Details
The second tier and high ceilings have created a framework, respecting the planning decision freedom in designing the modern interior. A comfortable atmosphere is also easy to be created and it becomes a compositional center of the whole space inside this cafe. The bar is one of the areas that have this atmosphere.
Spaces
All seats are moved to the room periphery from the central area because of the island location. The room periphery is the most comfortable zone for sitting in this cafe. The focal point of interest can be seen inside the hall. This hall also becomes a main visual attraction for all visitors who come to the cafe.
Design
All details in MADE IN CHINA Cafe are dominated with some Asian motifs such as red velvet and neon signs on the windows of the cafe. A visual connection is created by the light lamps that look like Chinese lanterns, connecting the first and the second tiers. The wooden bars are used to design the shelves and racks, resembling Asian architectural constructions.
Materials
The shelves and racks are made from wooden bars. Most of the tables and chairs in the seating area of this cafe are also designed with the same wood type. There are also concrete tiles used as a finishing material, especially in the bar area. These tiles resemble the fish scales when it is seen more closely.
