Smurfit Kappa Global Experience Center is the European headquarters for Smurfit Kappa, the market leader in cardboard packaging solutions. It is located in Schiphol, Amsterdam. For the European headquarters, Smurfit Kappa trusted Fokkema & Partners to design their multi-tenant office building which is a place for innovation, creativity, and inspiration to collaborate with clients. As the name implies, the design team integrated a Global Experience Center into the design with the first phase was finalized in 2015.
To structure the space, curved glass was chosen. It merges the product display area with a retail space, a laboratory, and workstation for employees. There are eye-catching walls shaped like stacked boxes line the space around the reception area and the organically shaped coffee bar.
To mark the product display area, there are modular podiums that can be configured to form a hexagon, making it appears like an opened cardboard box. The modular podiums can also be arranged playfully, allowing innovations and packaging to become a true centerpiece in the free-flowing open space.
The office comes with an exhibition area that acts as a virtual reality and inspiration room that provides a hands-on experience of the Smurfit Kappa’s innovative strength. It also acts as a meeting center and office.
A second floor was added in 2016 intact with a refined new staircase and void. During the project, Fokkema & Partners wanted to emphasize a unique free-flowing and interactive experience without disregarding Smurfit Kappa’s packaging and innovations.
