SWA Group was in charge of landscape planning and architecture for the only 5-star resort in Nicaragua under Pellas Development Group. The 25-acre site highlights the native features of the site, such as the local culture and nature, combined with the rich horticultural diversity existed in the Pacific Region.
Mukul
SWA has managed to connect the built environment to the land with minimal disruption to the site, preserving the site’s geological features and native flora.
They also offered landscape solutions by repairing disturbed vegetation and using only indigenous plantings from existed botanical species in order to produce a resort environment alive with vibrant color, fragrances of the garden, and seasonal change.
The environment of the resort feels alive thanks to the integration of botanical species you can find almost in every corner and space.
Sustainable Design Principles
The firm developed proposed sustainable design principles in order to transform the site which was formerly known as an undeveloped portion of Nicaragua.
Through the approach, they included structures to optimize natural ventilation and harness solar power.
On top of that, the firm incorporated rainwater collection for re-use and treatment as well as employed electrical vehicles and bicycles to be used for transportation across the site.
Supporting Local Community
The existence of Mukul is also the result of local community cooperation. That being the case, the firm involved farmers to protect the water sources of local residents.
The preservation of trees, water catchment strategies, and the reforestation of barren areas were encouraged by financial incentives.
Mukul’s support for the local community goes beyond that. The resort provides educational opportunities and decorating the resort with furnishings created by local artisans.
Perfect Holiday Destination
As a perfect holiday destination in Nicaragua, Mukul offers 23 mountainside bohios and 12 beach villas all designed as suites overlooking the sea.
The property also comes with a 7,800-square-foot private suite compound and a 20,000-square-foot private residence.
To make the visitors enjoy their stay even more, Mukul provides a beach club and a spa facility.
For the future plan, 40 residential lots and 6 beachfront villas will be developed on the larger property.
