1100 Architect developed a contemporary retail environment within a historically landmarked building in SoHo.
Called MoMa Design Store, the showroom was designed for the Museum of Modern Art’s initial presence beyond its Midtown Manhattan Home.
MoMa Design Store is located in New York emphasizes the openness and flexibility through the use of gridded furniture display system and modular floor panels. Meanwhile, the display system allows the showroom to accommodate a changing stock of merchandise as required.
Enclosed in slabs of glass, the original cast-iron columns lend the space a contemporary sensibility without disregarding SoHo’s history.
A backlit polyvinyl membrane reaches across the ceiling of the ground level and continues to a wall of the ground down and the cellar floor in a single, folding surface. This feature also functions as lighting, bathing the space in soft, even light.
