Mecanoo constructed a residential building that stands out from the other urban villas in Funenpark, Amsterdam. Called Villa Myriad, it offers various programs that include 22 apartments across 13 types of housing.
The Urban Villa Myriad
The maisonettes at the ground floor level that comes with an outdoor area bordering the green car-free space between the residential blocks. Meanwhile, among the varied programs offered by the Urban Villa Myriad, there are 6 larger apartments that can house a single family.
The residences are situated on top of the fourth story, looking exactly like detached houses.
The houses surround a small rooftop square with footpaths and trees. The trees offer a breath of fresh air on the rooftop.
Obvious Configuration
The configuration of the residential building is very evident even from the outside. You can identify the apartments which are located on the opposite side of a central corridor. You can also notice the twelve family dwellings from their masonry facades which display varying bonds and colors.
The Communal Character
The communal character of an apartment complex can be distinguished by the two intermediate stories. There are continuous glass fronts between strips of preformed steel, creating a neutral filter between the apartment and the city.
