ARTIC [Anaheim Regional Transportation International Center] is a new iconic, 16-acre facility located in Southern California. Designed by SWA Group, ARTIC forms a seamless gateway from Anaheim to Orange County. The access has encouraged economic growth and community redevelopment across the region.
ARTIC
SWA created a unique, identifiable design image by complementing the ARTIC’s iconic architecture with a powerful streetscape identity.
The facility also comes with a large central plaza to create a European square flair.
It connects passenger drop-off areas, a forecourt for the terminal building, and a central pedestrian zone.
Work of Art
The firm incorporated artwork into the overall plaza design to add visual interest and aesthetic diversity to the site.
A series of olive trees and succulent plantings on both sides of the building and plaza are able to unify the site and architecture.
Meanwhile, the olive trees offer shaded seating areas for those who wait for buses. There is also a succulent garden that adds vibrant texture and color to the space around the building.
Dramatic, Shaded Outdoor Environment
Both canopy trees and date palms provide a dramatic and shaded outdoor environment intended for informal socializing and civic events.
Here, visitors can also relax while walking along the Santa Ana River. For the future project, there will be a continuation of the Date Palms along a pedestrian promenade in the center of the northern parking lot.
This will create a strong visual and pedestrian connection to the existing Honda Center, offering dappled shade with a vibrant garden under as a setting for parking and building access.
