The former Fitram Industrial area was converted into a new library in La Spezia, Italy. Responsible for the project, Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia built the building on a 4500 m2 site and finished in 2012. This new library is believed to be the tool for growing and nurturing the society through the power of reading and culture.
The New Library
This new library is a form of new urban center project in line with the will of the Administration.
The library is functioned as the place that provides meeting spaces, reading, and entertainment.
The Creation of a Living Place
The library provides a number of programs including the creation of a living space.
It houses a small auditorium, the administrative center, a reading space for children as well as archive and office rooms used for the book reading and consultation.
Opportunity for Growth, Training, and Socialization
Although the idea to transform the industrial area was quite a challenge, the firm was able to establish a place that offers an opportunity for growth, training, and socialization through reading and culture. This belief was immediately seen as a tool of connection and sharing of rediscovery and perception.
