Altai-Inspired Artistry: A Bright Apartment with Modern Art

Altai Inspired Artistry 12

The interior of Altai-Inspired Artistry masterfully blends bright and muted tones, achieving a unique harmony that complements the homeowner’s art collection. Designed by Alexandra Dashkevich and Olga Oleynikova from AND Design, the 74 m² space caters perfectly to the energetic lifestyle of a young businesswoman. Situated on the 22nd floor of a modern Moscow skyscraper, it presents an adaptable yet stylish living environment.

“We were presented with a bare concrete space, providing us with a blank canvas to sculpt something entirely new,” said Alexandra. The design challenge was to create a versatile yet stylish living space that includes a combined kitchen and living area, a private bedroom, a guest room, a dedicated home office, and two bathrooms.

The interior designers transformed the developer’s original layout to ensure a smooth transition between the living, dining, and kitchen areas. They added a master suite with a bespoke wardrobe and an ensuite, a utility-focused guest bathroom, and a multifunctional guest room/home office perfect for relaxation and productivity.

“From the very beginning, our client turned to contemporary art as a source of inspiration, choosing works that not only complemented her personality but also enhanced her living space,” said Olga. The result is a thoughtfully selected collection of contemporary art, organically integrated into the apartment’s interior, reflecting the owner’s distinctive spirit and style.

During the design process, a lucky discovery revealed the client’s roots in the Altai region. This inspired the apartment’s color palette, drawn from a particular artwork showcasing Altai landscapes. This serendipitous find led Alexandra and Olga to create a design that resonates with the client’s heritage, filling the space with energy and inspiration.

Material choices played a crucial role in creating this harmonious design, seamlessly blending natural wood with both subtle and bold paints for a balanced aesthetic. The living room showcases an ochre accent wall that complements vertical oak slats, while glass doors separate the lively guest room, allowing warm and cool tones to interplay throughout the apartment. The bathroom features functional ceramic granite paired with luxurious cognac-colored beech veneer panels.

Personal items from the client’s previous residence, such as the dining chairs and a hallway ottoman, were seamlessly integrated into the new design, and complemented by custom furniture crafted from the designers’ blueprints. Additionally, a cleverly designed multifunctional wardrobe was included, incorporating essential utilities and enhancing the apartment’s functionality.

“We chose gypsum-based paintable lights recessed into the ceiling to achieve a diffuse, unobtrusive lighting scheme that enhances the natural flow of the space,” added the interior designers. The ceiling of the open-plan area is painted in a soft, sandy hue, which visually expands the apartment and maintains a cohesive aesthetic throughout the space.

Open to innovative ideas and creative input throughout the project, the client’s willingness to explore new concepts enabled the design team to create a living space that not only meets her needs but also adds a flair that transcends conventional urban living.
