Carol Christian Poell: A Minimalist Industrial Interior Design of A Monobrand Boutique

The second floor of the concept store and gallery Carol Christian Poell in Moscow unveils a realm of avant-garde fashion and art. It has a minimalist industrial interior design that attracts everyone’s eyes and invites them to visit. This interior design also features an art object in the form of a cut half of a cast-iron bathtub that makes an ideal backdrop for the avant-garde collection.

The success of the first floor designed in 2021 by architect Ariana Ahmad led to the expansion of this bold, surreal, and sensual boutique on the second floor. It is his second boutique in the world after Munich. Alexander Moiseenkov, the boutique creator, invited Ariana Ahmad to continue the visionary project.

Understanding the brand was crucial for this project. Known for his mastery of leatherwork and experimental treatments, Carol Christian Poell is one of the most enigmatic designers today. His awesome and special pieces range from 2 to 40 limited editions with individual passports, and they only can be accessed by appointment.

The purity and focus on the beauty and autonomy of the design pieces are the essence of the brand. That’s why the new interior should be able to offer a distraction-free environment for enjoyment and contemplation. The main task was to open up the space, keeping it pure, as well as creating the perfect backdrop to highlight the product, the author’s vision, and creativity.

The project was directly coordinated with Carol Christian Poell’s team. All plans, visualizations, and details in printed form were sent to Milan. Ariana also said that this project became a truly ‘living’ art piece with no room for contrived design.

Larger than the first floor, the second floor is 86 m² in size with ample windows and a lavatory. This floor features a poured floor, exposed beams and utilities, concrete styling, walls either treated with glazing techniques or left raw after removing all layers, glass blocks from an abandoned factory, and simple white tiles.

Thanks to the minimalist industrial decor, an ideal backdrop for the avant-garde collection can be created. Chairs 101 Copenhagen and a table from Friends&Founders by GK concept are some of the minimal furniture that complements the space. A striking art object in the center was a joint creation by Ariana Ahmad and Alexander Moiseenkov, made from a sawn-in-half cast-iron bathtub.

Alexander received a small sink from the designer and this sink now is mounted on the main hall’s wall. The final result of this project is a simple yet worthy interior that showcases Carol Christian Poell’s creations and conveys the atmosphere without distracting from the main attraction.
