Belgium Cottage: A New Vacation Home with Contemporary Elements

Belgium Cottage 11

Designed by Searl Lamaster Howe Architects, Belgium Cottage is a new vacation home situated on an eight-acre site on the shores of Lake Michigan. The design of the house is evocative of classic resort architecture.

The house’s Dutch gambrel roofs are designed based on the barns that populate this area of southern Wisconsin. The traditional forms are modernized with the paring down of details and a play of proportions in the windows.

The huge expanses of glass and minimalist fixtures and fittings are contemporary elements. These elements are juxtaposed against the traditional elements to blend the house with its surroundings and its time.
