Originally built as a home for the architect and his family, The State is a three-unit building project by Jonathan Segal Architect, FAIA. It is located in San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood. These three units offer awesome versatility and flexibility.
Design
Instead of just one house, the architect designed three units on the modestly-sized corner lot and two smaller units of them have been sold to friends. This project is finished on a limited budget but the result is amazing.
Materials
The three units offer flexibility and versatility, creating convertible housing that can shrink and grow as needed. There are only the most basic materials used for this project: concrete and plywood for the interior, stock windows for the exteriors, and stucco.
