The client of this house is a young bachelor that purchased and entrusted the design team of Abramson Architects to renovate it for a modern era. The unique form of this house is preserved while the interior and exterior are refinished to reflect the owner’s minimalist modern style.

Bragg Creek House: A ‘Studio’ Experience and Flexibility with Open Interior Space

Completed by Marc Boutin Architectural Collaborative in 2003, Bragg Creek House is designed for two artists and their young triplets. Located in Bragg Creek, this house is a response to the client’s request for an open plan that reminiscent of a ‘studio’ experience with flexibility for the evolution of the family change. This house is also designed with an open interior space defined by a series of objects.

Casa Morgana 2

Casa Morgana: A Three-Storey Building with Different Sized Cubes

The building of Casa Morgana is like an abstract volumetric study for a potential building surrounded by neighboring homes dating from the late nineteenth century. It is a three-storey building designed by J. Mayer H. Architects and Architekten mbB. Completed in 2019, this building consists of some differently sized cubes placed at staggered levels on top of one another and connected by a central stairway.

House On An Isthmus 3

House on an Isthmus: A Modern House with Weathering Alaskan Yellow Cedar and Bleached White Oak

Completed in 2017 by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, House on an Isthmus sits on a property that occupies a narrow isthmus of land. This modern house is positioned to take advantage of long and awesome views in both directions. Weathering Alaskan yellow cedar and bleached white oak are some of the material palettes that used for this house to age due to the seaside environment of the site.

Pentagonal House: A Private House with A Deformed Pentagonal Flat Surface

Located in Tsushima City, Aichi Prefecture, Pentagonal House is designed in a wood structure by Kazuya Morita Architecture Studio. This project sits on a limited site so building a house with a normal rectangular floor plan will create a lot of wasted open space around it. Therefore, this private house is designed as a deformed pentagonal flat surface to secure the room areas.

The New Residence At The Swiss Embassy 4

The New Residence at the Swiss Embassy: A New Residence with Charcoal Integral Color Concrete

The program of this 2006 project is a 23,000 sq ft new residence including living spaces for the ambassador, staff quarters, and also representational spaces. The New Residence at the Swiss Embassy is located in Washington D.C, designed by Steven Holl Architects in collaboration with Rüssli Architekten AG. The main materials used are charcoal integral color concrete trimmed in local slate and sand-blasted structural glass planks.

H’ House: A Private Residence with Two Concrete Floor Slabs Supported by Small Rectangular Columns

This private residence is located outside of Maastricht’s city center, a leafy, green, and open area. H’ House is a residential project by Wiel Arets Architects with Alex Kunnen and Francois Steul, owned by a couple who is a dancer and a director. This house is composed of two concrete slabs, supported by small rectangular columns. This project started in 2007 and completed in 2010.
