The client wants to have a property with a combination of the protected Geller structures and Yew Garden as a new residence. That’s why the constructed path is made to link the spatial and visual relationships between the house elements. This path has a raised form with a wooden surface that recalls the Geller’s architecture boardwalks.

The new building system offers an ideal solution and brings a warm character to this single-family residence. Additional building systems are also integrated into the prefabricated panels of the house, including the lights, skylights, and active shading systems. These components are manufactured and combined to create the best structure for the house.

With the operable partition, the extensive program spaces can be accommodated one another. When this partition open, the living room merges with media room for larger gatherings. The wall has a thickness that separates the kitchen and dining room, accommodating a widen rack which also functions as a beautiful light fixture.

With a modern reinterpretation, Atlantic has a design inspired by the station’s wooden post and beam structure. This house also features an exposed steel structure that forms a framework and defines the main living spaces. The framework offers some functions that can be hung such as the main stair is strung from beams above, a wood burning stove sits on a suspended steel shelf, the rods used to support each tread serve as a guardrail for the stair, and much more.

The architect uses some materials used on agricultural buildings traditionally because of their durability, low maintenance, and ability to face the extreme weather. The roof and sidewalls are covered by Alaskan yellow shakes with four times larger of coursing exposure than the typical coursing, reducing the house apparent scale. By elevating the ground place and referencing the local vernacular, Piersons Way sits well within the surrounding landscape and turns into a cohesive addition.

Built with insulated concrete forms, the walls are an assembly nearly twenty inches thick that consists of a poured concrete core and wrapped in insulating form as formwork during construction. These walls can provide the best thermal insulation and also a low sound transmission coefficient. Because of the concrete cores, the walls also act as structural beams that span over the center space and the house covered deck.

The structural system of the house is made from a series of exposed glulam wood beams with venting panels between each beam. In order to achieve large spans, the beams are joined by some steel flitch plates which is creating a void for the house light fixtures. The same flitch plates also become a cantilever from the beams, supporting the roof with its thin profile.

It is a little bit different for the roofline structure. The battens at the roofline are omitted, letting the light filter between some boards. The exterior siding has a language that expresses the interior design of this house space. The interior walls are designed visually with the horizontal datum lines through the material transitions for the wall claddings and interior finishes.

The simplicity values of Quaker and its craft can tie a new home for the community around the area. The courtyard is used to bring nature and light into the house interior so the volume can create a contemplative home. These values also create a desirable and fun environment for the children of the couple.

Each house structure has an independent mechanical system that can be shut down especially when unoccupied. This system also allows the house livability to contract and expand whether the couple is hosting dinner guests, alone, or having a full house overnight guests in their house.

The shape of a sloping form is designed based on the sloping soil structure. This form makes the building look more attractive from the outside. With an ideal sloping structure, several levels in the house can be well designed, dividing several rooms and place them properly according to the needs and the size of the floor area.
