If House: A 1950’s Split Level Home with A New Wing and Early Modernist Architecture

If House is an award winner in Residential Architecture (Alterations & Additions) category from the Australian Institute of Architects ACT Chapter Awards 2016. Working together with Matrix Joinery and Country Builders, Ben Walker Architects designs a new wing at the back of this house and removes a previous, poorly considered addition. An early modernist architecture of this house is enhanced by its new rooms.

ED&JO House: A New Single-Family Dwelling on Sloped Topography with Expanded Floor

ED&JO House is a 2013-2018 project located in Vila Nova de Famalicão, Braga, Portugal. The aim is to demolish a single-family dwelling then build another one in the center of V. N. de Famalicão. The gross area of this house is 408.90 m² on two floors with a 367.20 m² footprint, sits on sloped topography. Designed by NOARQ, the house floor is rehabilitated and expanded to preserve some rooms of the house.

Stealth Building has been hailed by WORKac as a model of sensitivity. It is a gut renovation and two-and-a-half-story penthouse addition with contemporary historic preservation and also adaptive reuse. Located in a landmarked district, the most of a Landmarks Commission requirement that rooftop additions are visible to the passerby through this awesome project.

This new home resonates with the Connecticut Valley history, designed with environmentally friendly materials with a challenge site on a large rock ledge. Completed in 2019, this house offers not only light interiors but also airy and warm.

LM Guest House sits on a rock outcropping that overlooks a trout pond and open farmland in Dutchess County, NY. This 2,000 SF guest house has vast unobstructed views of the landscape. Completed in 2013, Desai Chia Architecture integrates a number of sustainable design strategies for this house, including a custom wood wall system and 4 steel columns of the structural design.

Designed for a family with two young children, Montauk House offers two levels plus a basement with 4,600 SF in size located in Montauk, New York. Completed in 2018, Desai Chia Architecture designs this house with an easy flow between indoor and outdoor activities to promote family interaction. The design of this house also integrates several sustainable design strategies.

Elm Grove House: Alterations and Additions to An Existing Red Brick Cottage with Sustainability Principles

Elm Grove House is a 2019 project of alterations and additions to an existing red brick cottage in O’Connor, Australia. Designed by Ben Walker Architects, this project also includes a connection to some elements and improved access to natural daylight based on the primary components of the client brief. With 249.0 m² in size, this cottage is also designed with a serious focus on solar passive and sustainability principles.

These balconies can reflect the interior rooms’ hierarchy in this dwelling. The balconies also become awesome telescopes that can capture the beautiful mountain views.
