Each volume is set on different levels, one light and one dark. This setup creates distinctive spaces that merge with one another.
The entryway of East Williamsburg Rowhouse is so beautiful. This space is designed with a bright color of white for the wall and the front door. Once you enter this house, you will be welcomed with an adorable mini stair.
Upon closer inspection, the building is divided into three blocks connected by glass passageways. These three blocks are mid-level from each other and in direct contact with nature.
With the large and clear glass wall, everyone can enjoy the view of beautiful the Spaarne river. The glass wall can be found along the wall near the stair.
Overall, the design of the Maison-Tour brings out the architectural purism as the result of the simplest spatial compositions.
Greenwood Ave Rowhouse has a private basement area which is divided into some spaces. First space is Gayle’s candy-striped writing studio and another space is Nick’s blue-hued music studio. Both of them are located the bottom area of the stairs.
For this project, Barker Freeman went with the idea of adding a front extension to the house’s front. The extension houses a stoop, glassed in-entry, and mudroom containing a staircase that will direct you to the living spaces.
Conceived as a contemporary farm in material and steel structure, the building displays colored façade and the aluminum roof which makes a contrast to the rustic environment.
Due to the site, flood regulations expected the building to at least 6 feet off of the ground and, based on co-op regulations, the height must not surpass 28 feet.
The cladding itself can be considered economical, rot-proof, environmentally friendly, and maintenance –free. Overall, the Château de Cartes is a place that emphasizes its poetic nature beyond the domestic scale; light and heavy or solid and fragile.
