Apart from our workplaces, your home is most likely the place where you’ll spend most of your time. Hence, it is imperative to personalize your home and make it aesthetically pleasing. Doing so will make your home feel nice and cozy, leading you to be happier in your outlook. By being smart about your home aesthetics, you can feel more relaxed and be more productive. Here are five DIY tips to drastically improve your home’s interior design.

1. Upgrade your doors and windows

When it comes to redecorating, upgrading your doors and windows may not come to mind immediately. However, refurbishing or even replacing your doors and windows may have a significant positive effect on your home’s aesthetics. Even if you don’t replace or redecorate your furniture, changing the windows and doors will bring a fresh look to your home. Another reason to do so is that you can regulate indoor temperatures and insulate your home better, making it more energy-efficient. If you don’t want to completely replace your doors, just changing your door shoe is a simple 2-person task and can have a significant difference on your home’s aesthetics.

2. Paint the walls in your house

Your room’s color can play a significant role in your mood when you’re in that room. Painting your room does not mean you have to spend a lot of money getting a paint crew. It is a simple DIY task that you and another person can do yourself. However, when you decide to paint your home, first think about what atmosphere you’d like each room to have. Bright white is the most popular choice as it makes a room feel bigger and lighter. You can add other complementary colors to act as a contrast to the white. However, before you start off, here are a few things to keep in mind while painting your walls.

3. Refurbish your kitchen completely

If you enjoy cooking, then it is vital to have a kitchen that makes you want to cook. You don’t need to have a big budget to refurbish your kitchen completely. If you don’t like the way your cabinets look, just give them a makeover. Replace the rugs and mats in the kitchen to make it feel cozier. You can also add plants or a few pictures on your kitchen’s walls to make it more aesthetically pleasing.

4. Get indoor plants

One thing that can really transform the interiors of your home is indoor plants. If you decide to go down this route, you have plenty of options. From cactuses to flowers to leafy plants – all or any of these can really positively affect your home’s aesthetics. However, you should keep in mind what kind of conditions the plants you choose will need. A few may need sunny weather. Others will thrive in humid or even cold weather. Hence, different plants should be placed in different locations in your house to ensure that they thrive. For example, plants that thrive in humid conditions should be placed in your bathrooms.

5. Be innovative with lighting

The majority of housing contractors will end up choosing standard lighting fixtures that they’ll have used in all homes they’ve worked in. However, you can be innovative with lighting by using designer light fixtures. What’s more, you don’t have to break the bank by buying high-end light fixtures. Hunt around in flea markets or second-hand stores to get plenty of great deals. Pieces you buy like this may need a paint job but will end up changing the entire look and feel of your home. Furthermore, consider installing different light sources such as floor lamps and table lamps throughout your home as that’ll increase the feeling of elegance.
