5 Ways to Enjoy Your Outdoor Living Space All Year

Jumpstory Download20210616 150058

Outdoor living space is precious, especially in heavily populated urban areas. So, whether you have a small backyard or you get to enjoy a luxurious garden with beautifully arranged flowers and trees, it’s important to make sure it is available all year long.

True, your garden won’t look the same all year round, but with a few tricks, you will still be able to enjoy your morning coffee or tea outside. The same goes with spending time with friends and family (when they visit) – you will still be able to enjoy a bit of time outside even if the grass and flowers are sleeping under a blanket of snow.

So, if you’re ready to start your all-year-round outdoor living space project, here are our top ideas:

#1: Invest in Quality Furniture

We know it can be difficult to invest in furniture since it’s always at the mercy of the elements, but modern outdoor furniture is a lot more resistant than you’d think. Of course, it all depends on the materials and techniques used during the manufacturing process, but it’s a good idea to search for weatherproof items from the start.

For instance, furniture items made from polyresin wicker, teak, or powder-coated steel are resistant to rain, snow, and sun and keep their good looks for at least a few years. Of course, it’s recommended to cover them when it rains or snows and bring the cushions and pillows indoors when not in use.

#2: Install a Roof or a Screen

Depending on how you’ve organized the outdoor seating area, you may want to install a temporary roof once the rainy season starts. This way, it will be easier to stay outside, even when it’s raining.

If the roof is not an option or the area is already protected from the elements, a screen may be more useful (to protect you from cold air and/or humidity).

#3: Heat Up the Place

Sadly, once the summer goes away the weather starts to feel a bit nippy. While you can solve the issue with a sweater and a coat, when the temperatures drop, you’ll need a real source of heat.

If you don’t want to invest too much and the outdoor area is not that big, a portable heater should be enough. But if you want to add a note of romance and whimsy to it, you should consider an outdoor fireplace or a firepit. Both let you enjoy the heat while gazing into the flames of a joyful fire – just like when you went camping during the summer!

And, if you really want to amp the place, think about installing a hot tub. You’ll appreciate the comfort it creates during winter and your friends will also find it difficult to stay away!

#4: A Bit of Light

As the days grow shorter, the evenings will get darker which means your outdoor space will lose its appeal. True, the firepit or fireplace will provide some romantic lighting, but you’ll have to lit the fire first.

So, for those evenings when you’re too lazy to start the fire or it’s still warm outside, add a few string lights or lanterns. The atmosphere will instantly get warmer and cozier!

#5: Grow a Few Plants

You don’t have to dig up the garden and turn into a tiny urban farmer, but it helps to grow a few seasonal plants in containers, on your porch. Their color and shape invigorate the space and, if you choose to grow herbs, you’ll never be out of spice! Additionally, you’ll be happy to go outside and tend to their needs even if it’s a bit chilly.

Overall, it may be a bit of an investment, but it’s definitely worth it. Nowadays, a garden with a bit of green space and a sitting area is extremely valuable. Of course, if you want more space, feel free to move onto the next step and build your dream garden!
