Located in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Mexico City, Fatima House is designed by Hernández de la Garza with an architectonic program for a young couple. It is the first single-family housing project in Mexico with NBK ceramic cover. This project is completed in 2014.
Site
Del Valle is one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Mexico City and this house is benefited by its central location and its urban planning system of this neighborhood. The location has wide and tree-lined streets for the vehicular and pedestrian streets. It also has numerous parks and yards.
These conditions turn the area of this house into an area with a lot of green areas with easy access to the avenues. It also provides quiet interior streets, making the Del Valle neighborhood one of the most comfortable places in Mexico City.
Rooms
The architectonic program of this project can be found on the main level of the house where there are social areas with a comfortable living room with a family room, kitchen, wine cellar, dining room, and chimney.
A studio and bedrooms are located on the first floor where the second floor is used as a service area. The architect starts this project by studying the conditions of the site and designing a rational square floor plan. This floor plan makes each space of the house can be used in the best way possible.
The architect decides to extend a part of the house to the back of the lot due to the visual conflicts from the interior to the exterior created from the use of the method. This extension can create a better orientation within a highly organized grid.
An NBK ceramic cover is used to cover the ventilated facade. It is a natural material of terracotta that provides durability and warmth to the house. As the first single-family housing project in Mexico covered with this material, this house is on a global level where technology and its constructive methods are the design process important part.
