Renovated by Kazuya Morita Architecture Studio, House in Sennyuji-michi is a renovation project of a gallery and a house from a townhouse. This townhouse faces Sennyujimichi in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto, Japan. For this renovation, the architect uses ceramics for various details and decorative looks.
Site
Renovated from a townhouse facing Sennyujimichi, this gallery and house are connected by a narrow alley. This alley is the characteristic of the area on the project site. The neighborhood was an awesome area where potters made climbing kilns on the slopes of Higashiyama after the era of Meiji.
It was prospered in the production of pottery and there are a lot of people who live in ceramic art still live in this awesome area.
Materials
The history of the area of the pottery town can be taken over by the architect in this renovation project by using ceramics. These ceramics are used for some details such as knobs for fittings, custom-made wall tiles and lighting fixtures, gardens using old tiles, and tiled dirt floors.
Details
Besides ceramics, wood elements also become an important part of this house. These elements are used for the entire structure of the house that completed by the wooden furniture as well. It is an awesome Japanese house where nature, ceramic art, and architecture combined to provide a stunning gallery and house.
