Few things are as crucial to your property’s operations as its air conditioning. After all, let me paint this unfortunate scenario for you.
It’s a hot summer day. You just finished up a long day at the office, or perhaps a long spell of working out in the yard taking care of the landscaping. You step through your doors, eager for the coolness of your home and aching for an ice-cold glass of water.
But when you step in, you find to your dismay that’s it’s just as hot on the inside! It’s time to get air conditioner repairs made ASAP!
If you are a savvy property owner, however, you can prevent yourself from getting into that situation. By learning to recognize the principal sign that your air conditioner will need repairs soon, you can prevent it from experiencing total failure.
- Smelly Odors
If you’ve been smelling something funny in your household but haven’t been able to figure it out, there’s a good chance that it could be your HVAC system. There are two common sources of odors in air conditioners.
The first is mold. If excessive moisture builds up on walls or in the ducting, then the bacteria on the surface could grow mold. This kills air quality in your home and can result in serious health issues.
The second common source for smelly air conditioner odors is an exhaust fume. The source of this is leaking refrigerant fluid.
- Unusual Noises
Unusual noises in your air conditioner are usually attributable to some moving parts gone wrong. The most common moving parts that fail are your blower motor and the belt that drives it.
The belt in particular is a part that should be replaced every few seasons, as excessive tension and wear can cause it to snap.
- Too Much Condensation
Are you seeing a lot of moisture in and around your air conditioner unit? If so, then there could be too much condensation happening. This isn’t necessarily a cause for worry unless you’re experiencing other symptoms that also point to the unit having to work too hard to cool your home.
- Increased Power Bills
Another symptom that points to your air conditioner working too hard is increased power bills. Now, this could either be due to an air conditioner repair that has to be made or a decline in your home’s insulative ability. Before consider replacing AC units, be sure to check to see if there’s any place in your house that is uninsulated.
- Uneven Cooling
Last but not least, uneven cooling is a common indicator that your old air conditioner needs an overhaul. It could be a problem with your ducting or with the cheap AC unit itself.
Signs That You Need Air Conditioner Repairs
Now that you know when you need to get air conditioner repairs, there’s no excuse for you letting your air conditioner fail at your property.
