Steel is taking the construction world by storm; not only is the new lightweight type cheap, but it’s also very strong.
For this reason, you may be considering a steel building for your business.
But how much does a steel building cost in 2020? We’ll explore the answer to this article.
How Much Does a Steel Building Cost?
The steel building costs per square foot are about $15 to $40. However, there are several factors that’ll affect exactly how much you’ll pay. Read on to find out more about them to get a better idea of steel building prices.
Size
An obvious factor is how big you want your steel building to be. Smaller ones cost around $3,000. They might be cheaper if you get them premade, which is another factor to consider.
On the other hand, if you want a huge steel building that’s industrial-sized, it can cost you well over $45,000 in some cases.
Design
There are different designs available for steel buildings. The two main ones are Quonset and straight wall.
Quonset buildings look like an upside-down half circle and typically cost a little less than straight wall. As for straight wall, this is what your typical building would look like.
Customizations
If you want to keep costs down, you should go with simple buildings with standard sizes. For example, go with dimensions like 30’x40′, 50’x50′, or 80’x100′.
If you’re trying to get a steel building that’s something like 23’x79′, then that’ll bump up the price significantly.
Additional Costs
When purchasing a steel building, you don’t just pay for the building itself. There are other costs involved, so you’ll need to factor those in to get a good idea of what’s within your budget.
Things you need to think about are delivery, windows, doors, foundation, and construction.
Here’s what to expect for each one:
- Delivery: 5-10% of the building cost
- Windows and doors: 10-20% of the building cost
- Foundation: $4 to $6 per square foot
- Construction: $3 to $5 per square foot
Keep in mind these are very rough estimates. It’s best to get a quote from any companies you’re interested in.
Company You Choose
Obviously, the company you choose will influence the price you pay as well. Some bigger, more reputable, and established names in the industry will charge you more than, say, a new, no-name company.
Of course, you’ll get what you pay for. For the more expensive companies, they’ll tend to offer more generous warranties on their buildings as well.
