An awesome combination of old and new can be seen in Ridge House. This house is located in Aspen, Colorado along a ridgeline with significant mountain views. With 8,250 SF, the scope of this project is architecture, interior design, and furniture selection. rowland+broughton mixes modern architecture and curated details to this house and won some awards in 2018 and 2019 for this residential project.
Design
Ridge House has an advantage from its awesome mountain views that enter through the windows. It is a house where old and new meet and unites in one building. The curated details are mixed with modern architecture, allowing for a connection to the site ranch-like character and layering of history.
Materials
In a single direction, sets of staggered, remnant stone walls run smoothly to allow the landscape and light to slip past easily. The metal walls are oriented along the central defining spine, meeting the stone and also envolving into the glass as movement through the house to private spaces from the public spaces.
Interior
Dominated in white surfaces and natural wood materials, the interior looks very soft and also elegant. Some details come with clean and simple lines. The placement and selection of furniture in each room are one of the most important elements to design this house interior to create a comfortable atmosphere for everyone who visits it.
