Should I Replace My Water Heater Before It Fails

Water Heater

Water Heater helps the water to heat by using an energy source above its initial temperature. A water heater is used for heating bath water, cooking water, space heating and cleaning. Heaters come in various shapes and size. Now the days are gone when people used to heat water on the gas or oven. These heaters are our saviour mainly in the winter season and in winter countries. The mostly used water heater is a tank type with attached pipe to it. It is a part of our daily lives, and we use it regularly.

These heaters are used continuously for 10 or more years without servicing and repair. So suddenly after ten years if it stops working then, we think how much money we are supposed to spend to get it repaired. This cost can only be reduced by doing its servicing once in a year or once in two years. But we do not realise the importance of the heater unless it is time for water heater repair.

So the first question comes up should I replace my water heater before it stops working? Yes, we should replace our heater before it goes off or starts leaking and cause damage at home.

You should check for signs that show now is the time your water heater is about to fail. You can avoid any danger or disruption of a failing water heater. Please find the indicators below:

  1. Age of the water heater: You need to find out how old is your water heater? Do you need changing it? The serial number on the manufacturer’s sticker will tell you the age of your geyser which you can find on the upper portion of the heater. This number says about the date of manufacture for example if you have a serial number like this “F180945679”. This means F is the month, i.e., June as F is the 6th letter that represents the 6th month of the year and 18 is the year. Therefore, the manufactured date is June 2018. If the water heater is placed at a commonplace in your home, you consider replacing it immediately.
  2. Water is rusty: If you find out, that the hot water is coming out from the pipe which is on the warm side, this means the heater is getting rusted. This can be a sign of leakage, and which can be harmful if you do not take precautions before time.
  3. Noisy: If your heater has started making noise while you switch it for water heating. With time the sediments start accumulating at the base of the tank. When you turn the heater on the sediments starts boiling along with the water. It’s heated and reheated and hardens every time the storage tank heater is switched on. The most common sound that you can hear from the tank is of rumbling and banging noises. The hard sediments depict less efficiency and more damage to the heater.
  4. The water around the Heater: If you find moisture around the heater is nothing but an indication of water leakage. This is hazardous. When there is heat the inner wall starts to expand and cracks which leak out the water from the heater. It will reduce along with cooling of the heater.

If you are serious about replacing your heater than it is time, it may not require any second thought. Overlooking the above points can cause a danger to your family and be risky. Contact a plumber or a company who will aid you with the servicing or if required replacement.
