A Modern Family Apartment with Creative Small Space Solutions

Céline Pelcé and Géraud Pellottiero from Atelier Pelpell were in charge of designing the interior for a modern family apartment located in Paris, France. The apartment was a former garage but had been transformed into living spaces. Despite the odd layout, the apartment spaces are still manageable and easy to work with. As the result, the interior designers were able to bring out plenty ideas for creative small space solutions.

The Apartment

This family apartment only has one window which acts as the entire façade of the living area. As the result, all the rooms were organized to face the window. Each room also has their own glass wall to allow natural light enter the space.

Across the open living room, there is a small kitchen equipped with an island. This island has an extendable countertop that can be pulled to widen the island space if necessary.

Fill with Storage Space

This is what one of the partial glass and the hallway look like. The spaces are filled with storage which is necessary if you are living in a limited-space apartment. The hallway itself will lead you to the front door and bedroom entrances.

A Curved Door

The interior designers use a curved door to provide access to the master bedroom. High ceilings and glass wall will keep the space bright. However, the occupants can use curtains to create privacy when desired.

Bathroom Design

Patterned colorful floor tiles are used in combination with black tiles to make a contrast to the white walls in the bathroom.

Children’s Area

Off the main hallway, there is an area dedicated to the children. The lower area comes with storage and an open play space. If you climb the existing stairs, you can go to the lofted bedroom space.

The lofted bedroom contains two beds and a simple net feature to protect the children from falling to the space below.
