Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company appointed PES Architects to renovate Lönnrotinkatu 18. Located in Helsinki, Finland, the building has existed since 1939 and gone through many changes over the course of years. The architectural firm finished the renovation project in 2017 and successfully came with a 5,700 m2 modern loft-style office without neglecting its original personality.
Lönnrotinkatu 18
Lönnrotinkatu 18 was previously known as the headquarters of a local shipping company. Then it was renovated by the architectural firm to bring out a unique and modern loft-style office building in the heart of Helsinki. In line with the new appearance, there are two new restaurants built on the street level and a courtyard with a summer terrace. Moreover, the renovation was conducted from top to bottom with specific attention paid to commuter cyclists needs.
When it comes to this matter, the building provides indoor and outdoor bicycle parks intact with washing and maintenance facilities. Not only that, it also provides several changing rooms with showers for the cyclists.
The Interior Makeover
In order to design a modernized office, the firm transformed the old interior into modern and multifunctional office spaces without banishing the original personality of the functionalist building. After the transformation, the building offers high-class accommodations for a wide variety of functions. As of now, Lönnrotinkatu 18 houses local start-ups, IT firms, and publishing companies in which PES-Architects was also in charge of the interior design for most of the new tenants.
Exposed Bricks
The red bricks are exposed to add a character to some spaces. The set up is combined with white walls on another side and bold-colored furniture arrangement.
