DIY Mini Pallet Coaster using Golden Popsicle Sticks

There are simple craft materials that do wonders if used in a good way that we sometimes overlook whenever we visit a craft store. One example of this craft material is the Popsicle sticks. You can see Popsicle sticks wherever craft store you will go, you can even see them as part of the school supplies section of a mall. But most of the time, we do not see the overflowing potential of this craft material and the many benefits of using it. The good thing about using Popsicle sticks is that it is super cheap and it can create a lot of projects, all you need is creativity and imagination to make it work. Today, we will create a simple DIY project that will utilize Popsicle sticks – a mini pallet coaster!

Coasters have been used not just for the sole purpose of protecting tables but also for decoration at home. It gives a different vibe on the table that crafters can’t get enough. That is why this DIY gold mini pallet coaster will surely be on your “do-it-yourself bucket list” after reading this step-by-step tutorial on how to make one. First, gather the materials needed for this DIY project. What you will need:

  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Glue
  • Woodcutter (or scissors)
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Gold Spray Paint

Step 1: Begin with marking the Popsicle sticks using your pencil and ruler. This will serve as a guide when you cut the edges later.

Step 2: By using your wood cutter, cut off both the curve edges of the Popsicle sticks so that it will look rectangular. You can use a pair of scissors instead of a woodcutter if the latter tool is not available. Just make sure that your scissors can cut the sticks perfectly and will not cause the sticks to break into half.

Step 3: Make a total of twelve rectangular Popsicle sticks for the coaster. Do not forget to check the measurement of each Popsicle sticks. It must have an equal length and size.

Step 4: To create the base of the mini-pallet coaster, apply some glue into three Popsicle sticks on their side onto two flat Popsicle stick.

Use the image below for your reference. Leave it to dry for about 5 minutes.

Step 5: After making the base of the coaster, you can now start putting the remaining seven Popsicle sticks on top of the base. Begin putting the first stick from the right side, then into the left side, and then the middle part. The photo below will guide you on this process.

Then start filling in the other Popsicle sticks to cover the whole top of the base. Make sure that spacing is equal in each stick so that the coaster will look proportionate. Also, make sure to apply enough amount of glue so that each Popsicle stick will have a perfect adhesive with each other.

Step 6: After finishing the top of the mini-pallet coaster, leave it for about 10 minutes until it is dry. You can also check the durability of your coaster to make sure that it will not get destroyed when used.

Step 7: When the coaster is already dry, you can now apply the gold spray paint. You can use any color you wish to, it depends on your creativity. Also, remember to spray evenly. If you are already satisfied with the outcome, leave it for 20 to 30 minutes to dry the paint up.
