A One-Bedroom Moscow Apartment with A Combined Kitchen-Living Room

Alexander Tischler is an international (USA/Russia) design bureau that recently completed an interior design project in a one-bedroom 38 m2 Moscow apartment with a combined kitchen-living room and a dressing area. This project is started in 2021 and completed in 2022.

The interior of this small apartment is designed for a couple who has children that already live separately. The request of the clients is to have a separate bedroom to get some space for a desk, including space for a utility unit somewhere except the bathroom.

This apartment interior is designed exactly according to the budget and plan. The special thing about this project is all the cabinet furniture is manufactured and made specifically for this apartment.

Layout

Before the project finished, this apartment had an uncomfortable layout with the living room in a larger space and the kitchen in the smaller one. With this layout, it is impossible for the couple to have a separate bedroom.

If the bedroom is allocated in a large room, the kitchen becomes the only area for the clients for resting and hosting friends. The solution to this challenge is replanning the layout based on all legal restrictions, separating the private bedroom and the kitchen-living room.

Spaces

A corner unit in the kitchen consists of appliances that are built into the cabinets and there is also a straight black countertop with a color that is highlighted by the built-in profile handles. The stove is completed with a built-in hood while the top modules and column cabinets reach the ceiling aesthetically.

A home office can be found on an insulated balcony. Two cabinets and a hanging desk are custom furniture designed and manufactured for household items and documents. Under the large cabinet, there is a place to charge the robot vacuum cleaner.

A large double-sided wardrobe accentuates the center area of the kitchen-living room. On the side of the sofa, one can find a shelf niche.

Details

Two passageways that lead into the bedroom guarantee the clients easy access to the bed. Frosted glass sliding partitions are added so the living room can get the light from the window as well.

A headboard of the bed faces the window, so a TV can be hung on the wall. This headboard will not be overheated by the radiator or cold. The installation of wall vents allows the house to get fresh air and keep the window closed.

On the right wall, the uneven protruding pylon is corrected and finished with porcelain stoneware.

The bathroom is enlarged by expensing the hallway. It is a narrow room that has a shallow cabinet with a worktop washbasin on it. Some places for access to utility systems and storage can be found in this room.
