Highland House: A Large House with A Gable Roof and Architectural Simplicity

The inspiration for Highland House design comes from architectural simplicity. This 3,000-square-foot house is located in the beautiful Issaquah Highlands, Washington. A contemporary touch on a classic design can be seen on this house’s gable roof.

Structure

The heart of the house is a large central core with double-high ceilings and it has two wings on either side. The gable roof attracts everyone’s eyes from the outside.

The light hardwood cabinetry gives a unique accent to the white walls while concrete floors extend through the first story of the house. In the kitchen, the bumblebee yellow drawers beautify the interior with a splash of color.

Spaces

A large living area and the kitchen are the heart of this house. The east wing is used for family activities, including a ping-pong table, swimming pool, and 600-square-foot exercise/sunroom. The garage is located on the west wing.

Structure

A U-shaped floating staircase leads to the second floor where there is a hardwood sky bridge that divides the master room from other bedrooms. The clients have a deep interest in natural lighting so the light-filled interior is designed with generous sliding glass doors and vast windows.

There is a seamless transition from wall to a ceiling thanks to the modern gable roof. This family house exemplifies a classic design that is implemented through modern features’ balanced integration.
