Private Apartment in Hodkovičky is an interior design project by COLLARCH, located in Prague, Czech Republic with 85 Sqm of the gross internal floor area. The aim of this apartment reconstruction is to create a quiet and neutral background for a young family. The main task is to create an empty space where all functions are integrated into the walls to define the apartment space.
Design
This modern apartment is located in a quiet residential area, on the 3rd floor of a 1950s four-story brick house. The variability of the placement of individual elements is ensured by the furniture system, storage rooms, and also smart wing, discreetly embedded in a color and materials balanced palette of surfaces. These surfaces have precise and minimalist detailing that can be matched easily by any style or color.
Reconstruction
A high standard of living for a young family is the client’s demands for this project. The complete reconstruction of the apartment is also done because of the increased requirements for acoustic comfort in each room. All the layers of additional building modifications from the past are removed, including the surplus non-load-bearing brick partitions and the poor quality plaster. A system of prefabricated concrete panels of the ceiling structure is also revealed, repaired, and left as the interior distinctive aesthetic element.
Interiors
The apartment original layout has been enriched and altered by some new interconnections between rooms, ensuring freedom of sufficiency of daylight and movement and also creating to the central corridor. Minimalist design comes with awesome details with a reduced selected palette of textures and materials that complement the original concrete ceiling of the apartment.
The ceiling is balanced from the apartment walls by the distinct deep gap that highlights its weight, materiality, and unevenness. With other interior elements, the aesthetics blend with the practical function. The low-voltage cables are routed in the gap for a variety of placements of hi-fi speakers. The lighting of the apartment interior is designed as a three-circuit rail system mounted on the ceiling, ensuring the variability in placement of the light fittings based on the layout.
Details
The apartment perimeter walls are neutral and white. The spine bone of the entire apartment layout is formed by the central load-bearing wall, emphasized by the surface treatment in the concrete screed. The fireplace is also designed with the same material for a sculptural feeling. he dividing partitions between corridor and rooms are replaced by a double-door cabinet system. A perforated veneered board forms the top layer of the acoustic absorbing panels that can complement the interior with a distinctive aesthetic element.
Materials
Together with wooden parquets, the veneer surface creates a soft and welcoming counterpoint to the rough texture of concrete screed and concrete panels. The bathroom is beautified in shades of yellow and blue which is different from the color palette of the other rooms while the relaxation and cleansing room creates a playful, childlike impression.
